Dr. Partha P.Bishnu has had the opportunity to be trained in one of the busiest, most modern and well equipped Neurosurgical departments in the country, GB Pant hospital, (http://gbpant.delhigovt.nic.in) MAMC Campus, New Delhi, affiliated to University of Delhi, India, from 1989 to 1994, under the guidance of accomplished Neurosurgeons and excellent teachers.

1. (Late )Prof (Dr.) Brahm Prakash, Director Professor and the then HOD., and

2. Prof. (Dr.) A. K. Singh, currently Director of Neurosciences, Fortis Hospitals, New Delhi & Noida. India.

Total number of major neurosurgical procedures being performed then were 1200 to 1500 per annum and currently it is 4000-5000 per annum. Dr.P Bishnu worked as MCh Senior resident; post MCh senior resident and subsequently as Research associate, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research(CSIR) from 1989 January to 1994 December. At that time, this was among the very few departments of Neurosurgery, in India, that was equipped from the very inception, with all the latest equipments and instruments required to perform all neurosurgical procedures. It is still one of the most advanced neurosurgery setups in the country, managed by a group of very talented professionals.

(Late) Director Professor Brahm Prakash was one of the pioneers in Neurosurgery in India, in Neurovascular Surgery. He also introduced the use of CUSA and Lasers in Neurosurgery in India. He always encouraged his students and team members to learn and adapt new technology in neurosurgical practice. He had great leadership qualities and always led by example.

Dr. Partha Pratim Bishnu

Prof A.K Singh is a highly skilled surgeon and a great innovator in neurosurgical practice in India. He introduced the concept and techniques of MVD in trigeminal neuralgia in the country, among other things. Thereby, GB Pant neurosurgery department became the first in the country to perform this procedure, as well as other innovative surgeries in field of spinal surgery under his expert guidance. He is directly responsible for developing and mentoring skilled neurosurgeons in and outside GB Pant Hospital, who are doing good work in India and abroad. He is a very patient teacher and a superb clinician; and certainly the most loved and revered one by all his students and peers.

Dr. Bishnu has had an extensive, hands-on training in (I) all major elective surgical procedures in Brain and Spine including Skull Base, Neurovascular, Spine, Paediatric Neurosurgery etc., as well as in (II) Neurotraumatology-Brain and Spine.

He was also involved with several research projects and clinical studies during his tenure as research associate.Research Projects :1991-1993 in G.B. Pant Hospital - Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) Project: Basic Study: Microsurgical anatomy of Cavernous Plexus in Human Cadavers by Stereoscopic Dissection. Clinical Study: a) Role of Corpectomy and Microsurgical Decompression in long term outcome in Multi-segmental Cervical Spondylosis.b) Early surgical intervention and outcome in partial spinal cord injury. (Paper presented in 10th International Congress of Neurological Surgery, 1993, Mexico).

He also had the opportunity to visit and train under Neurosurgeons in NIMHANS, Bangalore, especially Professor B. S. Das, who was then the head of the department and an expert on managing CV Junction anomalies. He completed his term as research associate, in GB Pant Hospital, before moving on to join the Neurosurgery faculty in SCTIMST, Trivandrum, Kerala, one of the leading Institutions and Superspecialty hospitals in Asia.

In SCTIMST, as an Assistant Professor he had the exposure for managing complex cerebral Aneurysms, and assisted and performed independently various Skull Base surgeries and other complex Brain tumors. He had the unique opportunity to be a part of the team for surgical planning of Intractable Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, under the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program run by the then HOD Neurology and an eminent Neurophysician, Prof. K. Radhakrishnan.

Assisted and worked closely with the world renowned neurosurgeon, Dr. Prof Chandranath Sen (Roosevelt Hospital, USA) for Intrinsic Brain tumours, in NNC Peerless Hospital, Kolkata, India.

Also had the opportunity to operate with Dr. Seungcheol Lee (Wooridul Hospital, S. Korea) for minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery using MED Techniques.

A short stint, gave him the opportunity to assist and work on Brain Lab, Neuronavigation, in Amrita Institute of Medical sciences, Cochin , India, under the guidance of his friend and an accomplished Neurosurgeon, Dr.Dilip Paniker.

Dr. Partha Bishnu has been managing various Brain and spinal lesions independently, in his corporate practice, since the time he has been working as a Consultant in Neurosurgery for about 20 years.

He has also organised and restructured the neurosurgical Services in various hospitals, especially multidisciplinary critical care for Brain and Spine Injured patients. Also, introduced the modern concepts of treatment in Elective Brain and Spine Surgery, as department co-ordinator, wherever he worked and has been passionately involved in teaching programs for doctors and paramedical staff; as well as creating increasing awareness amongst primary care physicians and the community.

Having regularly attended national and international hands- on workshops and live surgical demonstrations, gave him opportunity to interact closely with International stalwarts, the likes of Dr. Robert F. Spetzler, Dr Chandranath Sen, Dr. (Prof) Med Majid Samii, Prof. Teutso Kano, Dr. Amin kassam, to name a few.

He has presented original work/ papers in international and national forums and chaired sessions in a number of conferences. His areas of interest and expertise include:
